9S is a Scanner-type android and member of YoRHa, an elite fighting force for humanity against the Aliens and Machines in the 14th Machine War in the year 11945. He is an exceptionally advanced model that specializes in hacking and intelligence-gathering.

PERSONALITY

9S is kind, helpful, curious, and unusually emotional for a YoRHa android -- which means he isn't afraid to complain, either. His drive to gather intelligence can cause him to pursue leads at great risk. He is proud of his capabilities as an advanced model, which can also be his downfall. He invests all of himself into his relationships and his role; as such, he can be extremely hostile toward the enemies that threaten them.

While he is expressive for a YoRHa unit and his pursuits can be somewhat eccentric by YoRHa standards, 9S is still bound to his programming. He feels unconditional love for humanity, and hatred for anything that would threaten it. As a soldier, he also feels a coded pleasure in killing. As a Scanner model, he has a strong desire to gather as much intelligence as possible. He is programmed to work indepedently, and thus has a tendency to act on his own judgment even if it may land him in trouble.

STYLE: 9S possesses sufficient strength to handle his own weight (286 lbs) with ease. He is capable of running at high speeds almost tirelessly and is tough enough to endure a multiple-story fall. He can use magnetic levitation to manipulate items registered to his Near Field Combat System and will often opt to swing his weapons in this manner, not touching them at all. However, hacking is his specialty, so he is especially effective against other robotic lifeforms.

FIRST IMPRESSION

While it may not be immediately apparent that he's non-human, a watchful observer may be able to spot the differences. 9S's movements are human-like, but they're also largely free of excess. Thus he may come across as more physically efficient than the average human; especially when running or fighting, he moves in a fluid, standardized way. Despite his goggles (which look like a blindfold), he can see perfectly well and will look at people to reflect it. His skin is soft, he breathes, and has a pulse. However, applying pressure to him (e.g., a tight hug or punch) will make his metal frame evident.
