[ She smiles like she isn't being at odds with her words because she's not, not really. Despite how composed and threatening she can appear, at her core is the fundamental truth that she wants to protect the happiness of others. ]

But if people can find joy out of it, shouldn't they? Happiness is precious. I want to build it up.

How about Mr. Wuxian? He's kind, cheerful, and dedicated to the well-being of his residents.

[ His perception of Wei Wuxian may be. slighly skewed. Also he doesn't know about his and Lan Wangji's whole Thing going on so ha ha ha ]

[ She stares at him for a second before she hides her laughter behind a hand. ]

I'll have to refuse. Even without taking our circumstances int account, have you ever noticed Lan Wangji around Wei Wuxian?

[ Because someone would have to be blind or completely oblivious to not notice. Or even have some kind inkling. ]

Hm? What do you mean?

[ He crosses his arms and peers at Shinobu curiously. He hasn't seen Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian in the same space, so if there's some kind of behavioral change going on, he hasn't had a chance to witness it. He doesn't want to admit that, though, just in case Nines would have definitely seen it... ]

I know Mr. Wangji respects Mr. Wuxian plenty. They've known each other for a long time, right?

[ 9S could have made up any plausible excuse and Shinobu probably would've believed it. Who knows how much Nines pays attention to when it doesn't involve weapons and involves someone that used to be Xian Le? ]

I don't know that much, but there's no mistaking how Lan Wangji looks at Wei Wuxian. He's what you would call a lovestruck mess.

[ Maybe 9S can be honest and disarmingly blunt enough in his observations that he can tell adult men what's up. ]

[ There's barely any reason for it past 9S being a little curious, but that's good enough for him. ]

What about him? He's my childhood friend and very dear to me.

[ Like siblings, eh. Tsukasa does have a kind of helpless younger brother vibe to him. ]

Then I guess I'm fresh out of options for you. Unless you'd ever consider dating someone from the Mori family?

[ She's not anti-Mori. She's simply not interested in dating in general right now, but she wants to hear his opinion of people. ]

Okay. Then how about Mr. Akira? Or my brother, Souji? They're both kind and honest.

I haven't spoken much to either of them, so I can't say either way. I won't say no to talking to them, but since I don't know them, I don't know if they'd be my ideal auction winner.

[ She won't expect it to go anywhere. ]

[ She smiles easily. She was only taken aback that he would suggest himself right in front of her when he doesn't seem to want to date anyone. ]

[ His shoulders droop with disappointment, more in the sense that he's missed a test question than any real dejection, and he looks at her curiously. ]

It has to be mutual. If you don't want to be involved with me, I don't want to be involved with you.

[ That's the most neutral honest answer anyway. ]
